Shawn Burrus

Congratulations to Shawn Burrus, age 17, a senior at Nashua High School North, on being named Nashua PAL’s 2026 Basketball Player of the Year!

Shawn has distinguished himself on the PAL Gate City Thunder through his leadership, dedication, and commitment to his teammates. PAL Basketball’s Head Coach Shawn Nieves describes him as “a great listener and also a leader, both vocally and by example.” Those qualities became even more evident during an incredibly difficult time in Shawn’s life. Recently, Shawn lost his father, who was a very strong influence in his life. Throughout that challenging time, Shawn continued working hard in school and showing up for his team at practices and games. Coach Shawn N. shared, “Shawn’s hard work and dedication to the team are still increasing. I’m very proud of the young man he has become and can’t wait to see what’s in store in his future.”

Ask Shawn what PAL has taught him, and his answer speaks directly to the teammate and leader he has become: “You can’t beat a team by yourself. You need team. You need teammates.” It’s a lesson Shawn lives on the court. His favorite part of PAL Basketball is “the coaches and players… They help me out.” And when asked who believed in him when he needed it, Shawn’s answer was just as clear: “Coach Shawn!”

Shawn’s athletic ambitions extend well beyond the PAL basketball court. He dreams of playing in the NFL or NBA and also plays football and runs track for Nashua North. Next year, he plans to compete for a spot on the varsity basketball team. Shawn’s advice to younger PAL kids? “Play PAL sports!” When he isn’t playing sports, Shawn enjoys playing video games.

Whether he’s leading with his voice or his example, relying on his teammates or being someone they can rely on, Shawn continues to demonstrate the strength, perseverance, and team-first mentality that make him a true PAL Champion.
